In today's world, reading, writing, and stories matter more than ever, and, more than ever, we are urgently seeking ways to create spaces for wellbeing in every one of our students. As humans we long to connect, to be connected, and to experience the power of love and joy. Reading and writing are the tools we can show our students also matter more than ever. At a distance or together, we use reading and writing to communicate, express ideas, and shape new thinking as we read, as we write. Renowned author Pam Allyn will share a powerful framework and roadmap for integrating best practices in student wellbeing and literacy skill building: resilience building, empathy building, and courageous thinking. We can help every student learn to tackle tough texts, read and discuss texts and ideas with others, and use the power of writing to convey ideas and write across many genres. In these ways, we will increase achievement and create a sense of hope and delight in every student. Pam will share practical strategies for classroom and schools to apply literacy principles and skills to the human work our students do in making friends, becoming more confident in class, and being bold and fearless as readers and writers, and learners.
